Transportation of the Dunedin city

The oil crisis hit this nation again and students' life go real humble. We walk everywhere!

Transport system of Dunedin..
we have two strong legs and what else can we say to make this world better?

Crazy crazy oil prices going over the moon and media playing real funny that cars and people are now cannot be separated?

welcome to beautiful Dunedin city,
we don't have tube, very few olderrrrrrrr students have a car (feels like granpa/granma?)

It is time to see what Otago Daily Times say to make it realistic (are they realistic? sorry we do not run undie 500 this year I am sure we will find some way to go to court! please be patient, darling)

Transport system is one of the most modern communication ways to connect and it makes people live in rural area that move away from central otago typical campus life.

It makes me think critically what would be best solutions?
OUSA did survey and a LOT OF STUDENTS DO WANT TO LIVE IN SOUTH DUNEDIN IF BUS COMPANIES MAKE SUPER TERTIARY STUDENT DEAL!!!

History of Dunedin started from the time when Great Britain brought train and steam train and tram to this small town -> Industralization, centralization and now de-centralization and globalization.

Let's not go back their where everyone in a big suitcase and carrying them everywhere in the city showing em they are from in the middle of nowhere.

I really want to live in Maori Hill next year, and please don't break down another war or even think about support war in this Olympic period G.Bush please. can't you stop?
Tony Blaire even claimed that he regret to support one of the Iraq war and what even make the world better except you talk about global warming?
Take that to your home dinner talk and bring some serious solutions to the speaking.
I don't think it is because of Bush or any other single element to make the oil price higher.
However, we have to consider now alternative transport and instead of driving license, a lot of campus sites are full of little cute scooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and I hate helmet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ID chips and cyborg -> becoming a robot?!

This virtual life(second life, whole cyborg thing) and ID chips in human body.. They scared me ..
I think human more likely to become a robot. we can programming ourselves, maybe in the future, some people will have remote control to stimulate part of their body, (turn it on and off their ID chips.. ?!)

ways of presenting ourselves online is in control, ways of how we look from birth is out of control..
cyborg is living being, not a human being..?

I found a interesting power point (can't remember where I get it from so can't reference.. but if you google it up, you may find it), and in this powerpoint, it defines the cyborg = 'cybernetic organism'

more about the cybernetic and how this theory describes a funny equation
Cybernetic equation human=machine ,

Click this site, -> Cybernetics

For this cyborg issue, it will change ever as our revolution of technology will keep going..

The picture above is called 'hawking-cyborg'. I guess Hawking is some shorten name of the owner of the cyborg?
A-ma-zing idea!

Okay, about 'microchipping people', as I mentioned in my previous blog post,
I wouldn't try on human body. I mean implanting ID chip might be convenient(like, in the international air port, it will save time for every one.. I don't like to lining up in a long que, holding my passport but still, implant ID chip is something I wouldn't trust)

I don't like the idea that even people who carry ID chips in their body knows what kind of information is stored in their ID chip, maybe at the end of the day there will be a power or control system.. What if the centre-system secretly put some information into ID chip that we don't want to be read, you never know..

And.. I just realized how expensive to get ID chip implantation! Read this article, 'Implantable chips, on sale now'
holy molly ~ it is expensive~ rice-size ID chip implantation costs $200 in US.. so.. in NZ roughly $400? (bit less than that? )
Health care institution already planned for this ID chips ?!

All these ID chips and cyborg ideas get me thinking that human is becoming a robot? (you may not understand what i mean.. Robot, computerize human body, mechanisms and control by some other centre computer.. )

p.s Gee.. I want to see bright side of them... ;D
Even these two (ID chips and cyborg) are not diseases/ medications, I always think of some 'side effect' ..not main purposes..

Convergence of mobile technologies

Convergence of mobile technologies sounds complicated. Not so easy as I thought!

Check this article, where have all the iPhones gone?

It makes me laugh that Vodafone company has no idea whether the iPhone would be coming into New Zealand or not. One of my friend bought iPhone version1 sometimes in October last year via eBay. (There was a guy who decode the region code(something like region code for retailer) in US so my friend could use it in NZ ) Sorry Vodafone, there is always some other ways to get things so don't bother to be worried :D

RFID(Radio Frequency Identification)

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)! It sounds super convenient for merchandise . With RFID, all the data can stored in little electronic tags stored in products. If you want to watch this video (how RFID works for retailers), -> "Technology video" It is from the Youtube, general information about RFID.

Not only for product/goods, also for the tracking of the animals (for farmers, animals can be considered as 'product' .. anyway.. ) , RFID tags has been used.

HOWEVER, NOT FOR HUMAN! I DO NOT THINK RFID SHOULD USE FOR HUMAN BODY!
Let RFID it be! stay for their original purpose! not transform into 'human bar code' system in the future! please respect the human human body, autonomy!

when I heard abouth implantation of RFID tags into the human body, I thought it is really scary idea! Wherever they insert the little chip, that means the person who carries RFID chip all the time will be lock himself/herself into such a small tracking devices! Who ever wants to do that!
I found one! B-) tada~ RFID implant
It is from Fox News! (Gees, This man is as freaky as the Fox News! , I mean I am really sorry to say this, but this man from the video said the reason why he implanted RFID chip under his skin is "it is convenient! For example, he doesn't need to carry his passport all the time? .. )

Has anyone ever watched the movie "Island" ( Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson ). In the beginning of the movie, I remember when Lincoln Six-Echo (Ewan McGregor) woke up, he scan his wrist (electronic chips underneath). In someway, when I watch the RFID implant video clip (above) , it brought me a few scenes (that the Lincoln Six-Echo has to scan his wrist all the time when he enter some places) from the movie, "Island".

Convergence culture seems handy, and sounds like we are all looking forward to seeing the next step of this 'simpleness' (such as mobile convergence! laptop + phone + txt+ camera + dairy + TV+ radio+ mp3 player .... = one simple and fancy mobile? )

When I think of what our lives will be in ten years later, huge amount of information will be still come out and more simplified devices will help us to store and process them?

Surveillance :Pros & Cons? in what surveillance! By who? <1>

On the left, this is my facebook profile page. Maybe I was making an excuse to do 'facebook'. but anyway..

Have you ever realize you were being observed or 'under surveillance' unwillingly?
No matter what reason, we are breathing with surveillance! It is unavoidable. When it comes to 'surveillance' in general, it gives me the idea of 'protection', 'pro-active protection'? '. I mean, for example, CCTV at the parking lot, camera at the 24 hour computer labs at university, speed camera on highway, things like that. We never thought or realize "IT WAS THERE BEFORE YOU GOT CAUGHT OR TILL SOMETHING HAPPEN". Then when you realize you were being under surveillance, before you knew, they already finished their homework! *Zing!* I don't know for some reason, I can take this as really lame example to describe.. often in 'CSI' (forensics involved to solve crimes) or 'Numb3rs' (FBI! yeah! they can tract down whatever they need to get work done and they often take 'cctv tape' from crime scene before/after and going through every single detail to catch 'the bad guy'). In numb3rs, (yes, I am a big fan of Numb3rs! meh, I know it is not that realistic), they often obtain suspects' email contents/history. I can going on and on about this but, I will move on to the internet surveillance!

Surveillance in cyberspace, peer-to-peer surveillance is positively acceptable(?) as long as you have a boundaries(privacy set up). The facebook has this 'mini feed' thing that I got bit surprised.->Like.. 'Boa wrote a msg on Tom's wall' or 'Boa Kim and 'Will Smith' are now friends/ 'Boa Kim comments on Helen Clark's photo
(this is just a example!), At some stage, I changed my privacy set 'news and mini feed' up again. So now it only shows changed history of my status.
Apart from interpersonal surveillance, this 'ECHELON' made me wonder how can I find them?
I have bookmarked and honestly, read very first paragraph of this website,
ECHELON: America's Secret Global Surveillance Network.

And this reading, ECHELON gives you a vaious useful resources/sources links about it. (plus, the web-page has a pretty map (not in English, I think it is in German!!!! and well, four agencies in the UKUSA system??? )

I am in half in sleep so going to bed now. :D

Next time I can finish the readings of the two above, and get some opinions on them!

night night!

Copyright-

Well, this topic is kind of hard, because I do not really care about copy right..
To be honest, I download songs and put them into my mp3 player, I get movie files from my mates and do not care where they come from. Deep deep down, I have tiny little bit of concern about copyright, I think, as this is sensitive issue for business people. Copyright automatically protect someone's idea, but sometimes, it is annoying matter for users. Some of journal websites require us to join the websites or pay for journal that we need, and this is because they want to protect their idea as their property?

I support the idea of copyright, as long as users can freely access to the information and recognize of some creator's right, but it should not be too strict!
What really copyright does too us is a big questions for me. Privacy, fair use and copyright..
Different culture realizes copyright in slightly different perception?
I don't know, although copyright does exist, and users are aware of it, people still download stuff off from internet and share files.

I don't know about autonomy and copyright however, I think it will gradually change.

Maybe we need something else, second version of copyright..

I like my real life better than my virtual life??!!!

When you having difficulty with your studying, TRY THIS!!!

I remember when Play station first came out, my friends and I, all so excited about this but well, too expensive to buy. So, we all gathered at one of my 'lucky' mate's place, playing around. Fortunately, I got sick of it very soon and moved on.

I don't have virtual life in game, really. (Really?) But I know a lot of stuff because few of my guy mates always on and on about it, like who got better item and stuff. we can create identity, socialize and make a lot of money in second life. Even, if you have a great idea, you can sell it to game company(if you lucky, you can be a millionaire and .. maybe 30 years later, you will be on a reality show, all you have to say is "YOU ARE FIRED!")

I can imagine, it would be super-great if we get points each time we sit on the library chair, stick our ass to the chair for at least 50 minutes for reading or studying then we will get 10 points!(10+!) And our concentration rate will get high if we get mushroom(look at the photo! XD)
So, just pretend that when we study( maybe in your head there are supermario background sound music like 'bambala bam~ '), we get points
1. we get 10 point if we sit and read for 50 minutes
2. If we don't talk, we get extra 3 points
3. If talk, we lose 3 points
4. If your 'enemy' come and talk and you did talk back, then you also lose 2 points.
5. If you use pen, highlighter, notes you get each 1 points.

Things like this. well, am I imagining some boring stuff that I can only think of?

Some artistic reality concept.. I read Critics last year sometimes and they talked about some university students killed ducks in Botanic garden because they are too 'poor' to do grocery shopping. If your flatmate cook dinner and it looks like roast chicken with extra fatty stuff, you need to look at your flatmate's eyes. (see they are living in real life). Maybe the university students who killed the ducks for dinner were playing game.. (hm.. don't get an idea man.. )

I wish I can invent some game for Otago University students for Couch burning.
Who knows? I can devote some time to reduce some damage in Dunedin city and I may get reward from fireman! (God, I love fireman!) You can choose couch colour, you can choose beer, wine, dekila or anything than get you drunk. In 2 minutes, you can burn couch with some 'helper' avata, creative burning will get extra points. You can pour Olive oil from your kitchen(extra points?). Maybe this game theory is dangerous and provoke more thoughts and action in real life.. So I will shut up.. about this.

I love my real life better than virtual life because I think you can see, talk, look at eyes and have cup of coffee. well, you can have silver knife or shiny gun and bling bling stuff in your game, kill some enemy, have Ford car. However, real life is real life still, we have to deal with it! Paying bill, feeding cats, cleaning mass from Saturday night, I know it sucks! but this is reality of real life and you will love it ! Right?

Blogging RULES!!!!

Blogging! Blogging! Blogging!! Yay! what an amusing creature for me!
We all are living with internet in everyday life.
There are many blogging sites that we can not even count!
History of blog is not that long like papyrus, or cave man's picture of COW!
we can read journals, watch news, overlook someone's criticism. Being a reader of some blog sites are very amusing as I can see each blogging has style, fashion of framing their post and what kind of rules they keep on track.

As we use blogging sites, is it really affecting traditional media news?
I still prefer to watch 6pm news when I cook dinner,
first, I have nothing to do apart from experiment with my food for dinner and second I know it is piece of crap but still I can see what is going on around the world.

On last Saturday, big fire was on princess street about 2am? 3am?
As usual, I was awake, entertaining little bit with my mates. Then I heard people went to see the fire! I thought, "Phew! what, another couch burning lesson?"
"Nah, really, there are big big fire on the Princess street! "
I did not believe it, and just keep hanging out, chilling out and eat lots of food..
the next day, I saw on the news that there were actual big fire on the princess street.
Wow.. I missed that bit, but I am sure lots of people took of photos or video recording them so we can get to watch them on bebo or youtube?

Why are all media so obsessed with the who is going to be the president of next US while president G. Bush sit back and relaxing, with his chocolate cheese cake mouthful?
Whoever, Hillary or Obama win and become a president of United States, White house would still be white house, maybe Clinton would be a good husband in this time by doing facebook with lots of gals~?

Lots of blogs making fun of those two(both Hillary and Obama) and make us being curious at least.

I often go to fashion blog, what is the latest fashion style in London or Italy and see how much skinnier girls walking on the fashion shows, imagining how much suffer by not eating as much as they want. (well, I do! ) It is informational, but never I can apply on me because, hello? You saw me! I am not skinny enough and as long as we live in Dunedin, I don't need that much cloths.
They often talk about this "Fashion IQ" that makes me think 'Do I.. I mean, do I have fashion IQ? I am wearing CCC pants for running and T-shirt from the cook, it is fashionable in Dunedin at least!" Well, if you want to check, go to this: Top 50 fashion blogs in US
I am sure Paris Hilton making her own as well go to her personal blog Paris Hilton my space

Ok, guys, I mean, I read a interesting journal that analyzing facebook and 1st year student life(Duh! like all first year, after they meet in about 10 minutes they want to know their cell phone numbers and facebook ID? really? ) go and check here !

I have been thinking what this blogging means and what would be the best rules in blogging.
There are NONE!!
Each blog has each colour, style, fashion and purpose no matter what who is doing the blog!
So sit back and Enjoy! NOW it is the time for us to eat cheese cake mouthful~ ! lol

Hallelujah wikipedia!

Photo above: who put the ugly photo of burned chair at the "Otago University" in Wikipedia? Hey, please, consider world wide web users. They might practice in the other side of the world to just "fit in" to Otago university before they come to exchange or to study in here.
say we have to study real hard till sun goes down, we all live in the library and we are not allow to drink anywhere but at the top of flat roof!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well, this time, I will try something that I can give a lecture lol.
It is so amazing how we can use, interpret the content of the network society.
Audience research showed that we can have gratification and something rewarded from the online communities. Authority, democracy and community around us continuously have changed and partly involved, generated and shaped!!
Web 1.0 and 2.0, in certain area, there are massive growing and framing as nice, pretty character sometimes, for example, since we can communicate each other, I can upload all the photos I took in Dunedin, then I showed off to my old mates in Christchurch( Definitely, we are different!! haha). they can email me, say some comments, sometimes it is so weird to read some of random user's messages.

As a internet user, I have been trying to use broad coverage of web contents. I can tell you story, about how much wikipedia hates me forever!
When I am doing my research, (My main area, Science, Genetics, Trying to put all the rare genetic disease into my brain) all my references are from pubmed, science direct or BMI journals that many scientists thought they do have 'reputation' to believe and rely on. We never say, "some people say so", we have to write the authority, where it come from, and who the hell found the dizzy fact. I was writing up a report about inherited disease. There are certain gene that you can receive from one of your parents unwillingly. It called HLA gene; human leukocyte antigen system (HLA), is the name of the human major histocompatibility complex, found on chromosome 6. Basically, if you are freaky mutant, you have likely to have turned on gene that HLA region 2 (have rhematoid Arthritis), region 3 likely to have Asthma and so on.. How did I know? I did some background search! Wikipedia! World's coolest my friend.. well, was. I just search HLA and came up some idea that I never did, but it was on the first result of the google! I can blame the google.
I talked to my lecturer, he didn't like it at all, told me to search Otago University.
well, at the end of this fairy tale is .. I ending up doing all my academic research all over again ,
with all books and journals. and never be friend with the wikipedia. I hate it!

Focusing on the information over material goods? sure! how awesome is that sounds?
Encyclopedia sometimes play funny, gives you completely wrong idea, confused you.
I can create some random disease and put up on wikipedia, say "Right eye blinking syndrome that it is inherited from your Y chromosome, there are 1 in 100000000 chance to get it" then who is going to fall for that? Authority? well, I don't think so. They might think I have freaky mutant retarded gene on my left brain.

web 1.0 was handy but like talking to wall, we obtain information and directories and then use them, but "prosumer" as doing both roles in these days.

web2.0, and web 3.0 maybe further more.. in social networks we can be sure that we can not rely on that 100%. Dual means we can interact, so this must mean something cool. .. not talking to wall or talking to million people whether you want to or not..
Personal space, we can communicate, create own identity.Think that I put up really gorgeous blondie girl's photo at my profile in facebook, it is like I am making my own cyber image and character- gee, I don't need any surgery like Micheal Jack***! haha I never ever thought of this before. I love myself so I just put my normal, plain photo which is boring...

Oh.. Final comment, who put the ugly photo of burned chair at the "Otago University" in Wikipedia? Hey, please, consider world wide web users. They might practice in the other side of the world to just "fit in" to Otago university before they come to exchange or to study in here.
say we have to study real hard till sun goes down, we all live in the library and we are not allow to drink anywhere but at the top of flat roof!

I might post another one tomorrow as I found some interesting readings.
I normally have too many questions to myself which make me bit silly!
Never mind. I am going to search some random drugs that I just found.
Good night guys B-)

Virtual Community

Effects of the virtual community and social environment

As virtual communities have been growing in our social communities, it has formed its unique characteristics. Virtual communities involves in social engagement, each particular culture, and combination of valuable purposes. Virtual communities such as online community depict mediated form of language and represent a shared code.
Virtual communities are composed of messy-tangled-web networks, also called ‘rhizomic relationship’.

For Social Capital, it is very broad meaning for itself. According to Cox, social capital is “the processes between people which establish networks, norms and social trust and facilitate co-ordination and co-operation for mutual benefit”. Well, but when it comes to online community, the definition itself might be little bit different. Erika questioned us that whether it precondition or outcome of virtual community. If social capital really do have equal relation between individuals and has horizontal hierarchy structure, in my point of view, it could vary. In economic, it provides us unconsciously gift, also into other aspects of goodwill. However, could social capital have any potential for central and local level of control? I mean, although social capital has low control and has convenient method that approach us in some stage, do they always function in same way?

Social capital generates virtual community and also, vice versa. During the virtual community approach us in all different ways; it creates social bonding; strong tie and weak ties. They formulate the ties via time, emotional intensity, mutual confidence (Trust) and reciprocity. Because they links to strong bond to weak bond, the virtual communities influence part of our lives and also, real community.

According to Bargh and Mckenna’s research on ‘the Internet and Social life’ (in New York University), as internet becoming part of everyday life, there are more potentiality to weaken social community ties. However, I think we have to consider that virtual communities reach different influential version in each different purpose, resulted in various outcomes.

David Holmes analyzed general virtual community, overall, in globalization and localization, convergence and divergence of the virtual community.

In my point of view, these network community also change (we live on fast-changing virtual community period?) in 10 years, maybe in 50 years? There is no doubt that we will continue to develop these rhizomic relationships but to what valuable effect we looking for in our social network? Is it actually taking from us what we once held as being valuable?

Hacking, Hacker and Hacktivism

Hacking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Posted image: from the movie Firewall (2006), Jack Stanfield
Famous
Quote: "Honey, I need to borrow your iPod."
This movie has chosen in the Top 20 Hackers in Film History by Scott Willoughby.
If you interested in, go to http://www.drivl.com/posts/view/461

Since internet has become a huge part of our lives, there are new phenomena: Hacktivism, Hacking, and Hacker. These issues are created based on the motive that “Information should be free and need to be able to share”. I am, again realized how the public media shapes our image of some objectives that I found out what I had known as ‘hacking’ is ‘cracking’! Well, according to Douglas Thomas, he defined cracker is unworthy, as opposed to ‘hackers’, who self identified as more sophisticated explorers. In David Gauntlett and Ross Hordley’s 2nd edition book called “Web Studies”, definition of cracker as ‘a hacker who causes damage to systems or uses stolen data for illegal means.

There are two uses for hacking:

To hack code’ indicates that make the code as fast as possible such as make it short.

To hack in’ represents that hackers one of main purpose, to test and to practice a system and security of a network. This comes from curiosity and early idea of hacking is to test the system itself and there is no intention to do harm. In Douglas’s article, he describes ‘the Hacker manifesto that Loyd Blankenship (1985) wrote to describe hackers’ self perceptions and how media twisted their images. Loyd repeated “you call us criminal “ after contrasting what other people have done things out side of online world and criticized how people can make misunderstand and misjudge about hackers. What I mostly impressed was “My crime is that of curiosity”. From historical context, first generation of hacking comes from curiosity about the mistrust of authority in 1950s and 1960s.

From 1980s, Media representation of hackers influences hacking culture. For example, War Games(1983) provoke some thoughts of young hackers to bring new trends in hacking culture. It is interesting for me that Douglas described two types of hackers; old school hackers from 1960s and 1970s and new school hackers from 1980s and 1990s. Old school hacking is mainly known for early hacking idea that ‘information wants to be free’. New school hacking indicates. New school hackers substitute the old school hackers’ hacking ethics and developed a culture with high-technology. New school hackers created new culture such as hacktivism.

Hacktivism is a idea of hacking from political goal and activism. Hacktivism often can become an act of cyberterrorism. I see this new movement is kind of revolution of new hacking culture and if hacktivism gets serious, with government concerns maybe we will have more strong punishment from hacktivism. If threats involve, I recommend that someone should pay for their action.

Most of the serious crimes are conventional fraud. Sometimes these new digital crimes are not involved in high technological hacking skills. They use commonly social engineering trick that simply they pretend to be a security expert to users.

I, also have some shaped image of hacking, no, cracking. Often in the movies, or TV series soap opera reflect image of hackers who are extremely brainy and computer guru. I remember I watched one episode of Nunb3rs (I think it was season two) about hacking computer system of bank and still money from clients online. It seems high plan that group of hackers with shiny gun, they were all smart enough to play all network of US banking system. But in reality, this is unlikely happening! (Well, to be honest with you guys, I am bit disappointed! I think in US things like these often occur! lol) Maybe in reality, it is not exciting, rather it is boring and annoying issue. What else could be inspired hackers in cyber society? Can anyone hack Otago University website for at lease one day? If any ‘good hacker’ see this, it would be nice someone put some random photo at the main Otago university website? Like photos of Orlando Bloom? Now I am dreaming.. :D

Have a look!

For communication technology, it can be varied depends on culture, purpose and countries. But I think there are higher technological priorities, but it can also be different depending on each culture and ways of public's life style. For example, on way of communication system in these days! CELLPHONE!
I think this is God-blessed technology because I can’t live without it. (Well, I guess I can, but I may have a lot of difficulty to communicate with others)
One of the advanced technologies of the mobiles has TV function. (Also, they do have UBS function, almost combination of cell phones and laptop!). It called DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) function. There are in South Korea and Japan. (Maybe other countries, too. But these two countries have more users than other countries. Korea was one of country start using them, because of Samsung and LG: they are Korean companies).
Development of communication technologies can be varied depending on consumer demand, consumers’ lifestyle, government, etc. I think it makes what kind of communication technologies public prefer…
Anyway, I posted the images of DMB mobiles. In South Korea, most of mobiles do have DMB function. Old model of DMB mobile (launched in South Korea about 2 years ago) has antennas! Kk However, recent models do not have antennas. But I posted all of them., so have a look!

Architectures of the internet

In this week’s lecture, we had a look at architecture of the internet.
Online architecture can be divided into three levels that are level of the users, level of the network and level of the structure. How the architecture of the internet out of communicative network influences our behaviour and life routine in several possible ways? With particular examples of these three levels of the internet can help to answer this question; Users-Identity, Networks-Virtual Community, and Structures-Surveillance.

Identity online as users can be varied. I think that who you are, thus definition of the identity comes in slightly different meaning between real life and virtual communities. What I mean is that who you want to be in real life depends on many variables. For example, if you were a great cook, you may work at the restaurant or own your restaurant, but still you tend to keep your effort to improve your skills by doing things. You need to make an effort to spend your time to practice how to cook, search for others’ recipes, reading some cook books and go to famous restaurant to see what could be the secret recipe of the foods. You may not a famous cook among the public, but eventually your reputation will grow. At the same time, there is a guy who just enjoys cooking as a hobby and gathering all sorts of food’s recipe on his blog, comment on each recipe after he cooked, briefly explain what ingredients would be better to improve food’s taste. Many people started to visit his blog, and his identity online gradually has become a famous cook but his actual cooking skill might not be that great as many users thought, and maybe your cooking skill is better than his. In cyber communities, individual can hold various identities these days mainly depending on purpose, situation and interests. In other words, on cyber space, words make your identity. Reconstruction of identity is related to different communication process. Especially, identity is product of the interpersonal society online activity. So identity is not fixed, identity is something that we can make, shape and renegotiate in online society. It may be difficult in real life, but it is flexible in online space.

Networks are composed of rhizomic social bonds. They shared same communication system, not only language but also may a jargon or slang. I wonder how this network community comes out of ‘traditional’ community. But social bond on network community could be a temporary social relationship, or it could last longer. Dr Erika Pearson emphasized that all virtual communities are network, but not all networks are virtual community. Is it because all virtual communities are open system? (Can anybody explain the clear reason? I can’t remember what she said) How network change users gradually? If we consider virtual community as network, how would this different to face to face community?

Surveillance in internet is a structure that gives political and social control. There are two types of surveillance; top-down (most structured surveillance, involves laws, very strict rules, shape network community of users), lateral surveillance (act on each other, equal, social, informative). Surveillance shapes the network and frame social network with the control.
Internet system has three elements that are users (Identity), Networks (virtual community) and Structure (Surveillance). On superficial level, it seemed simple system for me, but in deep down, online communication system is complicated. I do know now, why internet scholars called network system ‘Rhizomic bonds’. It is messy, complicated but they do have certain pattern and rules that I am going to learn more!!

Cybersociety

welcome to my first ever blog!
Hope this will be a great fun!
I am from University of Otago, 4th year of my study in Dunedin.
I am hoping to combine my medical genetics and media studies to do my research for further study. I am also interested in pharmaceutical development fields, clinical medicine study, all wicked human genetic diseases, public health issues with media roles, old movies, all sorts of sports especially swimming and tennis.
Wish we can have some fun on this cyberspace.
